During the numbing process you may experience a stinging or burning sensation from injection of the local anesthetic. Once you are numb, the procedure itself is relatively painfree. If you experience any intermittent discomfort, it can be relieved by the injection of additional local anesthetic so it is important to communicate this to us.
- Compression garment sizing and ordering needs to occur at least 2 weeks before the procedure.
- A 50% deposit is required at least two weeks prior to procedure and the balance is to be paid in full no later than the morning of the procedure. A 10% fee will be charged if the procedure is canceled 7 days before procedure date.

Smartlipo: Post-Treatment Instructions:
- Some swelling may occur from the local anesthesia. Post-procedure drainage may occur and this is considered normal. The fluid may be blood tinged, yellow, or clear. It may last up to 48 hours. Much of this fluid may be the local anesthetic. Drainage for each patient will vary. Several dressing changes the 1st day is normal. You may need a gauze dressing or simply a Band-Aid.
- The incision sites are small and heal by themselves. Clean these sites with soap and water twice daily. After the drainage stops (1 or 2 days) bacitracin or topical antibiotic ointment may be applied.
- No showers until the drainage stops (1 or 2 days). Sponge baths are encouraged.
- Please leave your compression garments on at all times except for dressing changes and bathing. Compression garments should be worn for 7 days after the procedure.
- If a prescription for antibiotics is given, please take the entire prescription as directed.
- Post procedure discomfort is usually mild and can be treated with acetaminophen
- (Tylenol). You will receive a prescription for stronger pain medication that can be used if needed. If you have significant pain, please call the office: 413-253-2214.
- A follow-up appointment will be made in 1-3 days. Additional follow-up appointments may occur at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months.
- Take it easy for the first day or two. After that you may resume your normal activities as tolerated. There are no dietary restrictions.
