Laser – Pigmented Lesion & Vascular Treatments
Laser – Pigmented Lesion & Vascular: Pre-Treatment Instructions:
-
Avoid the sun 2 weeks before and after treatment. It is better not to treat tan skin.
-
If you have had a history of herpes, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be started the day before treatment and continued for 3 days. Ask for a prescription
-
The skin should be clean, with no make up, lotions, or other products on the skin.
During Treatment:
-
When treating the upper lip, the teeth may be protected with wet gauze. The gauze also serves to support the lip during treatment.
-
Safety considerations are important during the laser procedure. Protective eyewear will be worn by the client and staff in the treatment room during the procedure.
-
If you are uncomfortable during treatment – tell us and we can adjust the pace and/or energy of treatment.
Laser – Pigmented Lesion & Vascular: Post-Treatment Instructions:
- Immediately after treatment, there may be erythema (redness) and/or edema (swelling) at the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours. Rarely, it may last 2-3 days. The treated area may feel like a sun burn for a few hours after treatment. The application of ice or cold packs during the first few hours after treatment will reduce any discomfort and swelling that may be experienced. You can apply sunscreen and aloe to treated areas.
- Brown Spots: 1 - 4 days after laser treatment, the area may look darker, and have some crusting. This is a common effect of the treatment and usually resolves within a few days.
- Vascular Lesions: Bruising may develop during the first 1-2 days after treatment. This will resolve on its own.
- Antibiotic ointment may be used for 3-4 days but usually is not necessary. We recommend pure aloe-vera gel or ice after treatment.
- Makeup may be used immediately after the treatment unless there is any blistering. It is recommended to use NEW makeup to reduce the possibility of infection.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyper-pigmentation or darker pigmentation. Use sunscreen (SPF 25 or greater) at all times throughout the course of treatment.
- Avoid picking or scratching the treated area.
- Call our office with any questions or concerns you may have after the treatment. There are generally no restrictions except to treat the skin gently, as if you had a sun burn, for the first 24 hours.
