Laser treatments for tattoo removal work in the same fashion as removing pigmented lesions--the pulsing light energy goes deep into the skin to break up colored pigment. Through the post-op healing process, the body further absorbs and breaks up the pigment, but often multiple sessions are necessary to fully remove the tattoo. The laser most used for tattoo removal is called the Alex TriVantage: a Q-switched laser with a pulse duration that lasts longer than most lasers, making it the preferred laser for tattoo removal. It has different wavelengths, which can be used to successfully remove tattoos of mostly blue, dark red and black inks.
