Microdermabrasion:

What is Skin Resurfacing? Resurfacing is a technique for removing the topmost layer of skin leaving it supple and vibrant.

The DiamondTome Wand removes a thin layer of skin by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips, while at the same time vacuuming the dead skin cells away in a sterile and controlled manner. Removing this outer layer of dead skin cells leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells.

Resurfacing using a DiamondTome Wand is similar to particle microdermabrasion and chemical peels in its results but without the adverse effects of loose particles, irritation and skin reaction. Unlike other exfoliation treatments, the DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing System uses no loose abrasives to contaminate you or the environment.

Injection Treatments:

Botox

Botox injections are being used to erase the effects of time and stress. Meetings... Deadlines... chauffeuring the kids... picking up something to eat on your way home - you've got a lot going on. Give yourself the attention you deserve. To help you get started, here's some frequently asked questions:

What is BOTOX ® and how does it work?

BOTOX ® is a medication that relaxes the muscles underneath the skin to create a smooth and refreshed appearance.

How long does the procedure take?

Generally, after the consultation, the procedure takes 15 minutes or less.

How quickly does it work?

It can take UP TO two weeks for it to take full effect and for patients to see the results.

How is it done?

After the skin is cleaned, Botox ® is injected with a very tiny needle - much smaller than those used to take your blood, etc. A delicate insulin-type needle is used. The amount of Botox® injected varies with the area being treated.

Does it hurt?

Most patients say the injections feel similar to a little pinch, although everyone is different.

How long does BOTOX ® last?

BOTOX® is not permanent. It lasts 3-4 months on average but everyone is different. If you have your first three treatments promptly every three months (without waiting in between!), we expect that your next few treatments will start to last longer than three months. Patients who stay on a regular schedule can stabilize their treatments at approximately two times per year.

Is it going to be worse when it wears off?

No! Your face will not look worse if you stop using BOTOX ® or when it wears off. BOTOX ® "stops / slows" the clock of aging. When you stop getting treatments, the "aging clock" resumes and you will simply return to where you started. If you use BOTOX ® for a number of years and then stop - your muscles learn to relax. Therefore, you may end up looking a little better than when you originally started.

How much does it cost?

The cost of treatment varies with each patient. At Amherst Laser and Skin Care Center, we charge per unit of Botox®. A unit is a very tiny measurement of the drug. The number of units that YOU will need can be estimated during a consultation. FOR EXAMPLE, for a typical female who is interested in having her glaballer area treated (the area between the eyebrows); the cost is approximately $350-$400 per treatment.

What are the side effects?

Side effects are rare. There can be some minor bruising or a slight headache. Even more rarely nausea or "flu" like symptoms can occur. Excess muscle relaxation (drooping) can occur, but this resolves on its own. Most patients do not experience any side effects at all.

I am pregnant / am currently breast feeding. Can I get BOTOX ®?

No. It is recommended that you wait until you are finished breast feeding to have your BOTOX ® done. Although there is no clinical evidence to prove any harm to mother or baby - we prefer to be safe. 

Juvederm Treatment 

     As we age, our skin produces less of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid. The loss of hyaluronic acid in our skin results in facial wrinkles and folds.
     JUVÉDERM™ is a dermal filler for temporarily correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is also commonly used to improve the volume and appearance of the lips. JUVÉDERM™ is a “next generation“ smooth gel, non-animal dermal filler offering a natural look/feel and long lasting results for up to six months or longer. JUVÉDERM™ dermal filler lasts long because it’s the only dermal filler currently available with the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid. This creates a smooth gel that flows easily into the skin, creating smooth, natural looks. Juvederm is the only hyaluronic acid that is FDA approved to last for up to a year.
     All other currently approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers use a gel particle suspension formulation. These gel particles can be visibly seen as opposed to the smoother formulation used in JUVÉDERM™. The smooth consistency of JUVÉDERM™ dermal filler also may help to minimize the discomfort that can sometimes occur during the injection procedure.

Before your Juvederm treatment:

• Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, or high dose of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to your treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site.

After your Juvederm treatment:

• You may experience redness, swelling and bruising after your treatment, which is normal and will usually resolve within a few days.
• You may apply 100% mineral makeup immediately after treatment.
• The use of Arnica and Bromelain tablets is recommended following your treatment to minimize bruising and swelling.
• You may experience tenderness in the treated area. Apply cold compresses to ease pain and minimize swelling.
• Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment
• Avoid sun exposure and exposure to intense heat until redness or swelling is completely resolved.
• Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas.

 

 

 

LATISSE® Lashes:

LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.

 

What is LATISSE®?

LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.

What is hypotrichosis of the eyelashes?

Hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes.

How does LATISSE® work?

LATISSE® is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase; and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. The exact way it works is unknown.

How do I apply LATISSE®?

LATISSE® solution is a once-a-day treatment you apply yourself each evening to the base of the upper eyelashes. DO NOT APPLY in your eye or to the lower lid because excess hair growth outside the treatment area may occur. See the full instructions in How to Apply, and apply as instructed by your doctor.

How soon will I see results?

LATISSE® users may see results at 8 weeks with full results at 12 to 16 weeks. The growth is gradual overnight, over time.

Is LATISSE® a replacement for mascara?

No, LATISSE® does not work in place of mascara. LATISSE® is a solution treatment for inadequate or not enough lashes and requires a prescription from a doctor. However, mascara can be used on your eyelashes in addition to LATISSE®.

What if I forget to apply one night? Or a few nights?

If you miss an application or a few, don't try to catch up. Just apply the LATISSE® treatment the next evening and stay on schedule.

What happens if I stop using LATISSE®?

If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.

Can I get a prescription for LATISSE® from any doctor?

First, ask your doctor if LATISSE® is right for you. Although any doctor can prescribe LATISSE®, some may be more familiar with this product than others. That's why we encourage you to use the interactive "Find-a-Doctor" locator tool to find a doctor near you who may be more likely to know about this FDA-approved treatment. When making an appointment, be sure to tell the receptionist that you want to find out more about LATISSE®.

What are the possible side effects of LATISSE®?

The most common side effects after using LATISSE® solution are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. This was reported in approximately 4% of patients. LATISSE® solution may cause other less common side effects which typically occur on the skin close to where LATISSE® is applied, or in the eyes. These include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, and redness of the eyelids.

If you develop a new ocular condition (e.g., trauma or infection), experience a sudden decrease in visual acuity, have ocular surgery, or develop any ocular reactions, particularly conjunctivitis and eyelid reactions, you should immediately seek your physician's advice concerning the continued use of LATISSE® solution.

Are there any special warnings associated with LATISSE® use?

LATISSE® solution is intended for use on the skin of the upper eyelid margins at the base of the eyelashes.  DO NOT APPLY to the lower eyelid. If you are using LUMIGAN® or other products in the same class for elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), or if you have a history of abnormal IOP, you should only use LATISSE® under the close supervision of your physician.

LATISSE® use may cause darkening of the eyelid skin which may be reversible. LATISSE® use may also cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent.

It is possible for hair growth to occur in other areas of your skin that LATISSE® frequently touches. Any excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin should be blotted with a tissue or other absorbent material to reduce the chance of this from happening. It is also possible for a difference in eyelash length, thickness, fullness, pigmentation, number of eyelash hairs, and/or direction of eyelash growth to occur between eyes. These differences, should they occur, will usually go away if you stop using LATISSE®.

What should I do if I wear contact lenses?

Contact lenses should be removed prior to application of LATISSE® and may be reinserted 15 minutes following its administration.

What should I do if I get LATISSE® in my eye?

LATISSE® solution is an ophthalmic drug product. If any gets into the eye, it is not expected to cause harm. The eye should not be rinsed.

Who should NOT use LATISSE®?

Do not use LATISSE® solution if you are allergic to one of its ingredients.

What are the ingredients in LATISSE®?

Active ingredient: bimatoprost
Inactive ingredients: benzalkonium chloride; sodium chloride; sodium phosphate, dibasic; citric acid; and purified water. Sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid may be added to adjust pH. The pH during its shelf life ranges from 6.8 — 7.8.
