Smartlipo LaserBodySculpting:
The Smartlipo™ is the first laser system designed for LaserBodySculpting and for the disruption of fat cells. It is ideal for treating localized deposits of unwanted fat, fat tissue irregularities and for coagulating tissue leading to a tightening effect.
Smartlipo is ideal for treating small areas of the face, neck, arms, breasts (gynecomastia), and other areas of loose or lax skin (flabby skin).
How does the Smartlipo work?
Smartlipo laserlipolysis is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. The procedure disrupts the fat cells through a thermal and photodisruptive action - heating and shattering the fat cell membrane. The laser coagulates the underlying vessels due to the hemostatic properties of the laser, resulting in less bleeding, bruising, trauma as well as less down time. As an added benefit, the system has also been reported to promote tissue tightening through bulk thermal heating and tissue coagulation.
The procedure is commonly performed under local and tumescent anesthesia. A laser fiber is introduced through a handpiece and detachable cannula. The cannula is then inserted through a 1 to 2 mm incision in the skin and into fat pockets. The cannula, with the tip of the fiber exposed approximately 2 mm, is then moved in a "back and forth" fanning motion. The laser's aiming beam can be visualized through the skin, allowing the physician to identify the treatment area.
As the fiber tip comes in contact with the fat cells it ruptures the cell membranes and releases the fatty oil from the fat cells. This end product may then be aspirated from the site.
What are the benefits of Smartlipo?
* Treats unwanted fat and fat tissue irregularities
* Promotes tissue coagulation resulting in skin tissue tightening
* Treats flabby or lax skin and areas of high vascularity
* Minimal edema and bleeding due to the laser's hemostatic properties
* Minimal bruising
* Causes less trauma and faster healing time than traditional liposuction
Does this procedure have FDA Clearance?
The Smartlipo has been cleared by the FDA for laser-assisted lipolysis. It is also cleared for incision, vaporization, ablation and coagulation of soft tissue.
Does laser-assisted lipolysis produce lasting results?
Yes! The Smartlipo procedure permanently destroys the treated fat cells. Adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, that person's fat cells simply expand. Should you gain weight, that fat will most likely be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.
Who is a good candidate for the procedure?
Ideal candidates are in good health, close to normal body weight and have realistic expectations for the results. If the person has areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then that person is a candidate for laser-assisted lipolysis.
How many treatments are required?
For most patients, typically only one treatment is required. The session may last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated. Laserlipolysis is also an ideal choice for "touch ups" and revisions.
How does the Smartlipo compare to the Vaser?
Smartlipo is a laser system with the energy transmitted through the fiber (which is threaded through the cannula) and deposited directly to the tissue, disrupting the fat cells. The laser's aiming beam allows visualization of the treatment area.
The laser is an ultrasonic device that transmits energy throughout the entire probe and not just the tip. The energy is more difficult to control and has been known to cause burns near the incision. The probe is much larger than the laser fiber and requires a larger skin incision. The company provides the system and all accessories to the customer and charges $500 per procedure with a minimum of 4 procedures per month.
How does the Smartlipo compare to the new ultrasound systems such as Ultrashape or Liposonix?
These systems are non-invasive and deposit focused ultrasound energy that does not differentiate between fat and other structures within the body. Extreme care must be taken to guide the system throughout the treatment area. The scanner remembers where the system had fired. For example, the Ultrashape device has a 5 mm spot size used via a scanning mode. A 10x10 cm area can take over one hour to treat.

Laser Hair Removal
Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief. Say goodbye to ingrown hairs and constant stubble!
Lasers have been used for many years for a variety of medical cosmetic procedures including treatment of facial and leg veins, age spots and rejuvenating the skin on the face. The GentleLASE System, a revolutionary long-pulse high energy alexandrite laser emits an intense beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair folicle where it is absorbed.
The laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair folicle leaving the surrounding skin uneffected. The skin is further protected during treatment by a Dynamic Cooling Device™ where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased comfort. The GentleLASE selectivity helps to protect the skin, while effectively treating the unwanted hair.
What conditions are treated with the laser?
Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief. Until now, the only recognized way to remove hair permanently has been by electrolysis - which can be tedious, time consuming and uncomfortable. The GentleLASE System safely removes unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. Facial and bikini areas are usually completed in under 10 minutes; legs, backs and larger areas can take longer.
What does the treatment include?
Depending on the amount of hair treated , the procedure varies from patient to patient. Generally, the treatment will include:
- Wearing safety eyewear to protect the practitioner and patient's eyes from the laser light during the procedure.
- A small handpiece will be used that touches the skin to deliver the laser light. A light spray of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each laser pulse.
- A test areas will be done prior to the entire treatment. Your full treatment may be done on the same day or up to 2 weeks later, depending on the skin reaction.
- Most patients experience little discomfort at the treatment site because of the dynamic cooling device.
- The degree of discomfort varies with each person, depending on his/her pain threshold. Topical anesthesia may also be requested based on individual preferences or tolerances. Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner in advance of the laser treatment.
- The procedure can take as little as 10 minutes or up to to an hour, depending on the area treated.
- The treated area may become pink or red within 30 minutes of treatment; this may last from a few hours to several days and is relieved with the application of ice or cooling gels.
What precautions should be taken before and after treatment?
- Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment or until your practitioner allows it.
- You must avoid electrolysis, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment.
- If you have had a history of perioral herpes, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
- If you have a dark skin type, a bleaching cream may be started 4-6 weeks before treatment to optimize results.
- You should discuss your desired results and the improvements you expect to achieve with your practitioner. Together you can decide if your expectations will be met and if this laser treatment is the best option.
How many treatments will I need?
Hair grows in cycles. The number of treatments required depends upon your skin color, hair color and coarseness of the hair. Everyone will require at least 4 treatments as the process is only effective on hair during the early growing cycle. However, many people will require 6 or more treatments, between 6 and 8 weeks apart.
We utilize GentleLASE™, one of the most advanced and powerful lasers available. Treatments are quick, safe and effective. The majority of clients experience little discomfort.

Reflexology
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a form of bodywork that focuses primarily on the feet.
How does reflexology work?
The underlying theory behind reflexology is that there are "reflex" areas on the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. For example:
• the tips of the toes reflect the head
• the heart and chest are around the ball of the foot
• the liver, pancreas and kidney are in the arch of the foot
• low back and intestines are towards the heel
This concept was furthered by physiotherapist Eunice Ingham into the modern practice of reflexology.
Practitioners believe that applying pressure to these reflex areas can promote health in the corresponding organs through energetic pathways. Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, an ear, nose, and throat doctor, introduced this concept of "zone therapy" in 1915. American physiotherapist Eunice Ingram further developed this zone theory in the 1930's into what is now knows as reflexology. A scientific explanation is that the pressure sends signals that balance the nervous system or release chemicals such as endorphins that reduce pain and stress.
What will I feel?
Most people find reflexology for the most part to be very relaxing.
Reflexology shouldn't be painful. If you feel discomfort, be sure to tell the reflexologist. He or she should work within your comfort zone.
Some areas may be tender or sore, and the reflexologist may spend extra time on these points. The soreness should decrease with pressure.
If you're ticklish, not to worry. The reflexologist applies firm pressure to the feet.
Why do people get reflexology?
• Stress and stress-related conditions
• Tension headaches
• Digestive disorders
• Arthritis
• Insomnia
• Hormonal imbalances
• Sports injuries
• Menstrual disorders, such as premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and Menopausal symptoms
• Digestive problems, such as constipation
• Back pain
Reflexology is a popular alternative therapy. It promotes relaxation, improves circulation, reduces pain, soothes tired feet, and encourages overall healing. Reflexology is also used for post-operative or palliative care. A study in the American Cancer Society journal found that one-third of cancer patients used reflexology as a complementary therapy. Reflexology is recommended as a complementary therapy and should not replace medical treatment.
What is a typical reflexology treatment like?
A typical treatment is 45 minutes to 60 minutes long and begins with a consultation about your health and lifestyle. You are then asked to remove your shoes and socks and lay comfortably on an aesthetic bed while you remain fully clothed (if combining treatment with a facial, a body wrap is worn). The reflexologist will assess the feet and then stimulates various points to identify areas of tenderness or tension. The reflexologist then uses brisk movements to warm the feet up. Then pressure is applied from the toes to the heel according to your comfort. Heated mitts and booties, Lotion or oils are often used. Please tell your Reflexologist if you have any allergies.
How will I feel after?
Most people feel calm and relaxed after a treatment. They may even feel sleepy.
Occasionally, people feel nauseous, anxious, or tearful, but this is only temporary and is considered to be part of the healing process.
Precautions
If you're pregnant, talk with your doctor first and let the reflexologist know.
Be sure to give the reflexologist a complete and accurate health history.
If you have foot ulcers, injury, or blood vessel disease such as blood clots, consult your doctor before having reflexology.
